PKD Bridge aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. The site is small and built by hand, so problems can be fixed quickly when they are reported.
What the site does
- Text can be resized to 200 percent in the browser without losing content or function. Line length stays readable at any size.
- Every page works with a keyboard alone. A skip link goes straight to the content, every link and button can be reached with the Tab key, and the focused element is shown with a visible outline.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks, and descriptive link text, so screen readers can move through them by heading or by region. Every image that carries meaning has a text description.
- Color contrast for text and controls meets the AA level on every background used on the site.
- There is no animation beyond a color change on hover, and the site respects the reduced-motion setting in your browser.
- The site works on phones and small screens without horizontal scrolling.
Known limitations
- The downloadable Word, PowerPoint, and PDF files have not yet been audited with a screen reader. The PDFs are tagged and have a language set, and every picture in the slide deck has a description, but reading order and table structure inside the files have not been checked.
- The 504 plan worksheet in the Resource Hub shows blank lines to fill in. On the web page those blanks are announced as “blank line” and cannot be typed into; to fill in the worksheet, download the Word version.
- The two typefaces are served from pkdbridge.org itself. If they fail to load, the site falls back to system fonts, which changes the look but not the content.
